Diffusion with Restrictions
نویسنده
چکیده
A non–linear diffusion equation is derived by taking into account hopping rates depending on the occupation of next neighbouring sites. There appears additonal repulsive and attractive forces leading to a changed local mobiltiy. The stationary and the time dependent behaviour of the system are studied based upon the master equation approach. Different to conventional diffusion it results a time dependent bump the position of which increases with time described by an anomalous diffusion exponent. The fractal dimension of this random walk is exclusively determined by the space dimension. The applicabilty of the model to descibe glasses is discussed. 05.60.+w, 05.70.Ln, 66.10.-x, 82.20.Mj Typeset using REVTEX

Diffusion Restrictions Surrounding Mitochondria: A Mathematical Model of Heart Muscle Fibers
Several experiments on permeabilized heart muscle fibers suggest the existence of diffusion restrictions grouping mitochondria and surrounding ATPases. The specific causes of these restrictions are not known, but intracellular structures are speculated to act as diffusion barriers. In this work, we assume that diffusion restrictions are induced by sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR), cytoskeleton prote...
متن کاملDWI signal from a medium with heterogeneous diffusivity
Introduction: In the context of diffusion in tissues, one can think of the two broad classes of restrictions to molecular motion: (i) surface restrictions (membranes), and (ii) diffusivity heterogeneity in the bulk of the tissue. The latter class encompasses variation of diffusion properties on a finite length scale, such as diffusivity contrast between cells, or between the intraand extracellu...
متن کاملSurface-to-volume ratio with oscillating gradients.
Restrictions to diffusion result in the dispersion of the bulk diffusion coefficient. We derive the exact universal high-frequency behavior of the diffusion coefficient in terms of the surface-to-volume ratio of the restrictions. This frequency dependence can be applied to quantify structure of complex samples with NMR using oscillating field gradients and static-gradient CPMG. We also demonstr...
متن کاملCharacterization of tissue structure at varying length scales using temporal diffusion spectroscopy.
The concepts, theoretical behavior and experimental applications of temporal diffusion spectroscopy are reviewed and illustrated. Temporal diffusion spectra are obtained using oscillating-gradient waveforms in diffusion-weighted measurements, and represent the manner in which various spectral components of molecular velocity correlations vary in different geometrical structures that restrict or...
متن کاملGeneralized random walk algorithm for the numerical modeling of complex diffusion processes
A generalized form of the random walk algorithm to simulate diffusion processes is introduced. Unlike the usual approach, at a given time all the particles from a grid node are simultaneously scattered using the Bernoulli repartition. This procedure saves memory and computing time and no restrictions are imposed for the maximum number of particles to be used in simulations. We prove that for si...
متن کاملAnisotropic diffusion of fluorescently labeled ATP in rat cardiomyocytes determined by raster image correlation spectroscopy
A series of experimental data points to the existence of profound diffusion restrictions of ADP/ATP in rat cardiomyocytes. This assumption is required to explain the measurements of kinetics of respiration, sarcoplasmic reticulum loading with calcium, and kinetics of ATP-sensitive potassium channels. To be able to analyze and estimate the role of intracellular diffusion restrictions on bioenerg...
